Re-Imagining Education
Sherri has over 30 years of accounting and tax experience in both public and private practice, and is a co-founder of Creative Inspiration Journey School. She began her career working for a CPA firm located in San Antonio, TX, preparing corporate and individual income tax returns. She then switched from public to private practice, spending most of her career working in the accounting and finance department of Cognis Corporation, an international manufacturing company based in Cincinnati, Ohio.
During her time at Cognis, she held positions as, Fixed Asset Manager, Financial Planning Analyst, Assistant Treasurer, and Manager of General Accounting, Fixed Assets and Treasury. Her responsibilities included (but were not limited to) tracking capital project spending, asset identification and depreciation, sales and property tax reporting, tax audit defense, asset risk management, account reconciliations, cash management and forecasting, financial budgeting and analysis, and financial statement preparations.
“Leader in Innovative Education”
In addition, Sherri held an executive office position, while living abroad in Singapore, as Treasurer on the Stamford American International School PTA. The association’s goals were to support and promote the school’s philosophy of guiding the students to become responsible, contributing citizens, not only within the school environment, but also on a local, national and global level. The PTA organized events that allowed new and returning families the opportunity to become engaged within their school and local communities. To create a caring and inclusive environment, some of the events opened an hour early only for families with special need students. This allowed those that would normally not participate in large scale activities due to their child’s sensory, social or physical disabilities, the opportunity to partake in school functions. To help foster the school’s focus on local, national and global involvement, the PTA organized an annual charity gala dinner dance to raise funds for the Cambodia Hope School. Funds raised from the gala were used to build the school and provided annual maintenance, school supplies and meals for the students that attended. In addition, the students, at each grade level, held on-site or local fundraisers to support their grade level’s charity of choice.
Upon returning from living abroad, Sherri became the co-founder and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Innovative Premier Services (IPS) and Creative Inspiration Journey School. She manages all aspects of purchasing procurement, accounts payable, cash management, T&E expenses, property risk management/insurance, payroll, workers compensation, income tax preparation, reporting and compliance, budgeting and analysis, account reconciliations and financial reporting.
